Ingredients:

Olive Oil is the main ingredient in all of my soaps. Olive oil does not clog the skin, yet acts as a moisturizer. Pure olive oil soap has a very thin lather and is on the soft side.

Coconut Oil has moisturizing properties. It also helps to produce a hard bar with more lather, and it resists rancidity.

Castor Oil (Palma Christi) is also a moisturizer, and adds to the lathering quality of the soap. Castor oil has been used in Edgar Cayce remedies.

Each of the oils is thought to have healing qualities.

Essential Oils What are these oils, and what makes them essential?

They are essential to the plants they came from, helping the plant to heal, to repel some insects, and to attract others. For centuries people have pressed or distilled the flowers, leaves, stems, or bark to extract a few drops of their essential oils. Essential Oils are used in aroma therapy, and sometimes directly on the skin. What curative properties these oils have in soap isn’t known.

Having suffered from allergies most of my life, I have been very pleasantly surprised to find that I do not react negatively to the Essential Oils I use.

Sodium Hydroxide All soap contains saponified lye. That’s why it’s soap. On your soap’s label you may read: "sodium hydroxide" "potassium hydroxide", "saponified --- oil", "soap", or another word that means lye. I use the word "soap" to suggest that while I began with lye, it is now soap. The soapmaker mixes the oils with the lye, stirring constantly, then adds the essential oils. When the mixture of oils, lye, and essential oils are poured into the molds, it is hot and continues to become hotter. While I am doing other things, the lye and oils in the molds go through a chemical change and together become soap. I use more oils than necessary so that after all of the lye has become soap, there is oil left over in the mixture. What we end up with is soap, oils, and essential oils wrapped in tissue paper.
