Whereas people can wash themselves twice a day with no harmful effects (if using a mild vegetable oil soap) canines are another matter. It can take a month for a dog’s skin to return to it’s natural Ph, so don’t get carried away.
Why we don’t use chemical flea killers Dog’s and fleas appear to like each other, but the flea really has the better end of the stick. Dog fleas prefer dogs and cat fleas prefer cats, but they are not so particular that they won’t taste you just for a change.
Rather than running a campaign to kill every flea and tick in Creation, you might just try to keep them from coming around. Sassafras is known as an insect repellent and was used in the "olden" days before people bought soap in the store. Lavender is hated by many insect pests, including fleas and moths. Ti tree is likewise distasteful to biting insects. All three of these essential oils are also known to be soothing to the skin. For these reasons, I recommend the Lavender, Sassafras and Vetivert, or Ti Tree soap for your dog.What about cats? Have you ever bathed a cat? Try it. The above soaps are also good for scratches on the skin.
For cats or dogs, I recommend planting a lavender plant in the yard. They will likely lay in it and pick up the scent on their fur. This will help deter the pests. If this is not likely, plant a bar of soap where your pet likes to sleep.
By the way.... Did you know that in the U. S. over a million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are killed in animal shelters every year? Please spay/neuter your pet. Unspayed female dogs can get uterine cancer, mammary cancer, STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases), and of course, a litter of puppies. Unneutered males can get run over by a truck, prostrate cancer, as well as STD’s.

Anything you put on your skin, or your dog’s, might be able to be absorbed into the skin. The same chemical that kills Mr. Flee can’t be good for Mr. Dawg. Puppies have been known to become deathly ill just from a flea collar, why would you rub the same noxious substance on his skin?
